Imphal, September 18, 2009: The ongoing indefinite class boycott agitation of All Manipur Student Union (AMSU) has become a cause of great concern to many educationists who fear that this would be an irreparable loss to around 48,000 students who are preparing to write their class X and XII examination in 2009-2010. To end the present deadlock and allow the students to study in peace, the students and teachers have also appealed to both the agitating AMSU and the Government of Manipur to bring about an amicable solution.

AMSU launched the class boycott agitation from September 9 raising various demands in connection with the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident of police firing that left two persons killed and five others injured.

Talking to The Sangai Express in connection with the present class boycott agitation, principal of CC Hr Secondary School Y Ngongalei pointed out that it has affected the process of imparting education to the students so much so that out of total 700 students in the school not more than 100 are coming to attend classes.

As a consequences, the examination of the school which was scheduled to be conducted during the current month has been postponed.

She also pointed out that the proposal of the Govt to deploy security personnel at schools to ensure education of the students needs to be reconsidered as this cannot be a viable solution.

Instead, the Govt should make an efforts to bring about an amicable solution with the agitating student body.

It is feared that students who are preparing for the class X examination to be conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and the class XII examination to be conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur in 2009-2010 are among those who would suffer the most as a result of the ongoing class boycott agitation.

In this regard, Ngongalei noted that end of the academic session every year is the time when the academic activities in full steam.

But the loss suffered this year would not be able to recover again.

Though the exact number of students who would be appearing in these two first important public examinations in 2009-2010 cannot be know at present, last year, 27,976 students have appeared in class X examination and 18,182 students in class XII.

Based on this record, officials of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur expected that around 30,000 students in class X and around 19,000 students in class XII examination may appeared in 2009-2010.Secretary of Board of Secondary Education L Rajmohan observed that other form of agitations may be resorted in connection with pursuing the demands of the people but in the interest of the students education should be left out from the purview of such agitations.

Otherwise, this would be an irreparable loss to the students.
