Imphal, July 16 2024:
A team of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) today visited Mongbung Meitei village, Jiribam and made a spot assessment of the security situation in the area.
Notably, Mongbung Meitei village is located between a Hmar village and a Kuki village.
COCOMI assistant coordinator Joychandra Konthoujam who led the team said that the ongoing violence is a result of insincerity on the part of elected representatives.
Illegal immigrants must not create any kind of disturbance in Manipur.
The Government must pay special attention and station strength adequate strength of security forces to protect Mongbung Meitei village, Joychandra said.
There are around 52 households and 400 people in Mongbung Meitei Leikai.
Out of them, eight are VDF personnel while one is a police Constable.
The village has just four licensed guns.
Nonetheless, the villagers have been bravely defending their village, he said.
Asking if any one can claim that Mongbung is not a part of Manipur just because the Government has not been sending adequate security forces there, Joychandra warned that politicians should not victimise the Mongbung Meitei village in their pursuit for political advance and power.
Reiterating that the ongoing violence is a result of insincerity on the part of elected representatives, he appealed to all elected representatives to work sincerely.
He then called upon all the Meitei people to mobilise all the indigenous communities and work together to protect Manipur.
With a firm determination not to leave their ancestral village in spite of repeated attacks, the village volunteers have been bravely defending the village.
The villagers said that the COCOMI's visit was a great motivation for them.
The visiting COCOMI team also provided aid to the villagers.
