Imphal, June 12 2024:
The State Government has repatriated 38 more Myanmar Nationals through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Moreh yesterday taking the number of people sent back amid the ongoing conflict to 115 .
A statement issued by the Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, said the 38 Myanmar Nationals repatriated yesterday included 11 children.
Notably, on May 2, 2024, the Government deported 38 Myanmar Nationals including 8 children to the neighbouring country.
The other 38 Myanmar Nationals deported yesterday were handed over safely to Myanmar authorities by the Immigration Officers at ICP Moreh, said the Government.
The Myanmar Nationals were apprehended for entering the State/country illegally under Foreigners Act, 1947 .
During their period of stay at jail/detention centre and children homes, they were taken proper care of and provided with all basic amenities and medical facilities, said the Government.
It added the deportation process was carried out in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and security forces.
The State Government remains steadfast in its resolve to deport all immigrants who have entered the State illegally, it said.
The information regarding the deportation of the 38 Myanmar Nationals yesterday was also shared by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on X, formerly Twitter.
"In continuation of the deportation process of immigrants, the Government of Manipur has deported 38 (thirty-eight) Myanmar Nationals to their home country Myanmar through the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Moreh, today.
They have been handed over safely to Myanmar authorities by the Immigration Officers of the Government of India posted at ICP, Moreh," he posted.
"The State Government is continuing the identification of illegal immigrants and remains steadfast in its resolve to deport them.
Let's keep our borders and country secure," he added.
The number of Myanmar Nationals deported since March this year has reached 115 .
The deportation came after the Chief Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah identified "involvement of immigrants" in the conflict in Manipur.
Even as the Government has promised to crack down on illegal immigrants infiltrating the porous border, there has been a surge in the number of Myanmar Nationals seeking refuge in several districts in the hills including Ukhrul and Kamjong.
The Government in May had stated that it had identified as many as 5,457 illegal immigrants in Kamjong district, and the biometrics of 5,173 of them had been recorded.
Significantly, there has been growing concern of impacts of illegal immigrants on the State's demography.
There have been rapid surges in the numbers of villages in some hill districts, and illegal immigrants have been often identified as the reason.
