Imphal, May 12 2021:
The Umang Lai Kanba Lup (UKAL) has strongly opposed recent attempts by some individuals to distort the history surrounding Mount Koubru which share an inseparable link with Meitei's culture, religion, history and beliefs.
UKAL in a statement said that some people have been attempting to create unnecessary confusion by sideling the historical and cultural aspects linked to Mt Koubru and playing minority and tribal cards for mere political gain.
These people are only trying to gain popularity by misleading people and using tribal names and such a bid will never be fruitful.
Koubru, Thangjing, Langmai etc have been sacred sites for ages and the unnecessary propaganda by some through submitting many ambiguous write ups to authorities should be treated with caution, it said.
The Government, as such, should intervene to curb misunderstanding and disruption in harmony among the communities and take action against those who are playing minority card and inciting hatred with misleading information surrounding these sacred sites.
UKAL also warned people to be very careful against those who are trying to politicise the matter on the foundation of minority, tribal rights and communalism.
To ensure protection of these sacred sites, the State Government should declare Koubru Laiphamlen and its relevant parts as Historical sites and evict new settlements within Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserve Forest Area.
The State Government should take up necessary legal actions against those involved in causing fire at Koubru Leikha Temple.
