Imphal, July 10 2024:
Around 70 truckloads of subsidized urea for this Kharif season are currently stranded at Jiribam due to the poor condition of National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) .
According to reliable information from the Agriculture Department, a train rake of subsidized urea from Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Namrup, Assam was brought to Jiribam after the Government of India had allocated the amount to the State.
However, due to the pathetic condition of Imphal-Jiribam road, only six truckloads out of around 9000 bags of fertilizer made their way to Imphal, while the rest were held up in Jiribam.
Reportedly, the six trucks faced many landslides on their way here.
On the other hand, approximately 1,50,000 bags of leftover urea from the previous Rabi and Kharif season are consistently supplied to farmers through NGOs and farmer associations.
However, new subsidized urea bags have not yet been distributed to farmers, as per information from the Agriculture Department.
