Imphal, July 08 2024:
Huirem Leikai Sports & Youth Development Association and Naharup Huirem Leikai Women Welfare Association have highlighted the need for dialogue to end the protracted crisis which erupted on May 3 of last year.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club today, Ranjit Huirem, advisor, Huirem Leikai Sports & Youth Association underscored the need for the State and Central Government to create a platform for dialogue.
Questioning why the opportunity for dialogue has not emerged so far, he further asked whose respon- sibility it is to create such opportunity and questioned the authority's silence on the matter.
Additionally, Ranjit Huirem maintained that State intellectuals, CSO leaders, student representatives and religious leaders should come to the table and talk out their differences.
Not summoning the Kukis, Nagas and Meiteis separately and not hearing their individual narratives simultaneously is making it difficult to find a solution to the crisis, he opined.
He further addressed the need for unity among the political leaders of Manipur to collectively bring forward the issues to the Central Government.
Congress MP Bimol Akoijam's recent Parliament speech would have been much more effective with the support of other leaders, he added.
Demanding swift enforcement of NRC in Manipur, Ranjit also advocated for the removal of "Any Kuki Tribe" from the Scheduled Tribes list, abrogation of Suspension of Operation pact with Kuki militants and appealed against any form of harassment, arrest and persecution of village volunteers.
