Imphal, May 22 2020:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has appealed all schools not to charge school fees from the students for the lockdown period.
Acknowledging the hardships students, parents and school authorities are facing due to the COVID-19 lockdown enforced since March 24, ZSUM in a statement said that students' fees should be waived off and Government should provide honorarium to the teachers.
Pointing out the roles private teachers play in improving the education sector, ZSUM lamented that they are paid less despite their best efforts.
The State Government should arrange honorarium for the teachers of the Government recognised private schools who are not getting paid during the lockdown, said ZSUM.
While lauding the State Government and departments concerned for distributing and delivering relief materials to the people amidst the lockdown, ZSUM maintained that authorities concerned should ensure that the relief/aid reaches the most deserving beneficiaries.
The ZSUM also appealed all including the returnees to follow all precautionary and preventive measures to avoid coronavirus spread.
