CM conducts surprise visit at RIMS, JNIMS

With the State Government intensifying checking and screening exercises at Mao Gate to ensure COVID-19 does not reach Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, today, conducted a surprise visit at RIMS and JNIMS to assess the preparedness of the hospitals.
According to an official source, the CM accompanied by Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, K Robindro, personally went and inspected the steps being taken up to combat COVID-19 at RIMS and JNIMS.
Directing the top officials of the two hospitals to immediately purchase the needed ventilator units, the Chief Minister also assured that the Government will do the needful to ensure that ample water is supplied to the hospitals so that people can wash their hands properly and practice good hygiene protocol, the source added.
The Chief Minister also talked with doctors who are stationed at Mao, Jiribam, Moreh and the airport to tackle the virus, apart from discussing the possibility of establishing quarantine facilities at the said locations.
PHED Minister L Dikho and Water Resources Secretary Jacintha Lazarus have gone to Mao to assess the measures being taken up at the entry point into the State.
Informing that the State Government has mulled the idea of providing more food grains to NFSA card holders, the source pointed out that the Chief Secretary met officials of the Chamber of Commerce today and directed them to ensure that people are made to wait in proper queue if and when the shops open.
The source further conveyed that the Chief Minister also inspected the sanitisation works being carried out at Khwairamband Ima Keithel and Lamlong Ima Keithel today.
On the other hand, the source explained that as a part of the stricter measures taken up at Mao, every passengers are now required to fill up a form mentioning their travel histories.
After filling up the forms, they are subjected to thermal screening and are marked on their hands, the source added.
For the convenience of the passengers, hand sanitisers are also kept nearby, the source said, adding that currently 14 doctors and nurses are deployed at Mao.
