Imphal, September 10, 2009:
Education Minister L Jayantakumar has appealed to the student body AMSU to call off its indefinite class boycott agitation taking into account interest of the student community.
Cautioning that prolonging the agitation would only imperil academic interest of the upcoming generation, the Minister also described as inappropriate AMSU's decision to enforce the boycott call as both the Union Human Resource Development Ministry and the State Government had been implementing various programmes to facilitate students access to modern system of education.
Jayantakumar also suggested that negotiation is the most viable platform for settling differences as it the student community who would suffer the most in case the agitation persist.
He affirmed that class boycott call contradicts aspiration of the people to make education a free zone.
While confiding that the Govt is keen to implement a policy to recruit teachers from the locality where educational institutes exist, he also affirmed that under the vision of one computer for every child (student) 1000 laptops have been booked .
The Minister disclosed that to commence boundary fencing works requisite amount had been deposited in the account of PDA.
