Imphal, December 05 2019: Kangkhui village is known all over the State and beyond for the famous Kangkhui Cave.

But the travel fare to the village from Ukhrul district headquarters is Rs 1500 during rainy season although only 15 Kms separate the two places.

As the road connecting Ukhrul district headquarters with Kangkhui village is pathetically bad, there is no public transport system on the road.

If one has to go to Kangkhui village or Kangkhui Cave, one has to hire a taxi and it costs Rs 1500 during rainy season and Rs 1000 during dry season, said Kangkhui village Pastor Phungkam R Shimray.

"Even if I'm travelling alone, I must pay Rs 1000/1500 for a one-way trip to Ukhrul and I have to pay this amount every time I go to Ukhrul or Imphal and again for the return journey", said the Pastor.

Even though many people wish to visit the Kangkhui Cave, they are reluctant to come to the village because of the extremely bad condition of the road.

It is not only the tourists, the villagers have also been facing serious difficulties because of the deplorable road, he said.

The road from Choithar junction to the junction which separates Kangkhui Khunou and Kangkhui Khullen is being constructed by the Government but the construction work does not cover the entire length of the road, he continued.

Cabbages are grown abundantly in the village, but the farmers cannot earn any money from cabbage cultivation because of the bad road and absence of public transport system.

The village has plenty of canals and springs but the villagers have been struggling every single day to fetch water because of absence of proper pipelines.

As per collective decision of the village, catching fishes and hunting animals using electricity has been banned.

Moreover, felling of trees in and around the village has also been banned, conveyed the Pastor.
