Imphal, April 05 2016 :
JCILPS has banned construction of IIIT complex at Mantripukhri for alleged engagement of migrant workers who do not possess necessary documents.
Speaking to reporters, JCILPS convenor Kh Ratan said that the ban has been imposed for violating the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Regulation Act 1975 .
He said that a drive was conducted at IIIT complex Mantripukhri as part of its continued campaign to detect migrant workers who do not posses necessary documents.
Many of the workers engaged by Simplex Company for the said construction work do not have identity card and relevant documents to prove their Indian citizenship, he said.
There is need for proper registration at the State Labour Department if the company has to engage workers from other States, he said.
Simplex Company officials told JCILPS volunteers that registration of these workers is in process, Ratan said and added that the company has however failed to show identity proof and other relevant documents of these workers.
He said that 35 workers, who did not possess any identity proof document, were pulled up and handed over to Heingang police station.
Although, 22 workers managed to show some documents, it appeared that many of these documents were vague, he said.
Ratan further said that construction works at IIIT complex, Mantripukhri has been banned until the work agency concerned registers its workers at the State Labour Department.
Members of JCILPS Student and Women wings also took part in the drive.
