Affected villagers seek compensation

Imphal, January 03 2020: Lamkang Khunou villagers affected by expansion of Imphal-Moreh highway have sought release of their due compensation at the earliest.

Speaking to media persons at Lamkang Khunou Church today, village chief Th Rengthang said that around 52 households of the total 78 households of the village have been affected by the highway expansion.

He then urged the authority concerned to release due compensation for the private properties as well as common structures affected by the highway expansion.

He decried that the assurances given by the Chandel DC and the SDO concerned during a meeting with the villagers on December 13 have not been fulfilled yet.

As agreed between the villagers and the Government officials, no objection certificates were given to firms concerned.

As the assurances given by the officials have not been fulfilled, the no objection certificates would be taken back, said the village chief.

If the firms/agencies continue to work without no objection certificates, they should be held accountable for any untoward incident resulting thereof, he warned.

On the other hand, Lamkang Khunou Village Expansion/Construction Affected Compensation Committee chairman Sankhil Momo Damong said that over Rs 1.60 crore out of the total compensation amount of Rs 5.6 crore entitled to the affected villagers have been fraudulently withdrawn by some individuals.

He alleged that the amount was withdrawn by two individuals from Chandel and Sora Maring Khul in collusion with a former chief of Lamkang Khunou.

Lamenting that no action has been initiated against the alleged frauds despite lodging several complaints with police and the DC, Sankhil Momo Damong said that different modes of agitation would be launched if the due compensation amounts are not released at the earliest.
