Imphal, May 31: Even as a lecturer of a reputed private coaching centre has alleged that there was a wrong question asked in the Chemistry paper of the MBBS/BDS entrance examination, the moderator of the examination has maintained that the question is correct.

The question in the middle of the storm is question number 43 in the Chemistry paper which is about the sequence of reactions.

Chemistry lecturer at Sachdeva New PT College, SP Goswami who personally contacted The Sangai Express said that question number 43 in the Chemistry is wrong and none of the multiple choice answers correspond to the question asked.

When The Sangai Express contacted Principal Secretary (Health) V Chhibber on the matter, the officer replied that the moderator of Chemistry paper of the examination has asserted there was nothing wrong with the question asked.

The moderator, Dr Kh Debendra Meetei, a lecturer at Oriental College, asserted that the question is right and referred the book on Organic Chemistry written by IL Finar (Volume I), said Chhibber.

The key of the question also gave choice number 3 as the correct answer to the question, added Chhibber.

The lecturer of Sachdeva New PT College however stuck to his guns and said that the question on sequence of reactions is wrong and explained that for the answer given in the choice to be right, the question should have added the role of a reducing agent.

To give credence to his claims, the lecturer referred to the Chemistry book of Morrison Boyd (page number 429, article 12.9).Another lecturer of the institute, Winburd Longjam also stood by the assertion of Goswami, saying that the question is wrong.

Meanwhile, the State Government today released the name of candidates recommended for selection to undergo the MBBS/BDS course.

In all 38 candidates were selected in the general list with Yoihenba Khundrakpam topping the list with 372 marks.

Meritorious sports-person candidate, Rabishwaree Ashem who scored 336 was included in the general category leaving the space more clearer for the next candidate to fill up the reserved slot.

Likewise, Johnny Varay who topped amongst the ST candidates with a score of 328 has been moved to the general list.

Other than Varay, eighteen other ST candidates were declared successful in the entrance examination.

Amongst the SC candidate Mahele Maharabam topped the list with a score of 344 mark.

The candidate has also been moved to the general list.

Amarjit Moirangthem qualified from amongst the children of armed forces personnel/ex-servicemen category with a score of 328.The waiting lists of the candidates have also been issued.
