CPI conference calls for resolving crisis

The Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council said that the Jiribam issue was discussed during the 47th annual conference of CPI Lamlai Local Council on Sunday, and resolved to pressurise the government to bring a solution to the more than one year long crisis.
According to a statement of the CPI council, the conference discussed about development activities in Lamlai assembly constituency and mount pressure on authority concerned to repair and widen Imphal-Ukhrul road at the earliest.
Another resolution was completion and inauguration of the health centre at Nongada, construction of which was initiated by late CPI leader Parijat and 70 percent of construction already completed.
In his inaugural speech at the conference, CPI state secretary L Thoiren regretted that chief minister N Biren remained in New Delhi to take part in the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the third term while Jiribam went up in smoke.
Nevertheless, he appealed to the chief minister to take immediate steps to contain the violence in Jiribam at the earliest so that no more killings and torching of houses occur.
