Imphal, February 19 2025:
Assam Rifles reportedly averted a major forest fire near Thangbung Minou village in Chandel district on Tuesday, preventing potential loss of life and property.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) release, the fire, which began when villagers attempted to clear a forested slope through controlled burning, quickly spread due to strong winds and dry vegetation.
The fare spread dangerously close to a commercial communication tower and nearby houses.
Troops of Assam Rifles on duty noticed thick smoke and immediately mobilised a firefighting team.
In coordination with local police and civilians, they effectively contained the fire, added the PRO.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles organised a medical camp at Tengnoupal on Wednesday to deliver essential eye care services to the local community.
The camp facilitated eye examinations, screenings for common ocular conditions, and specialist referrals for advanced treatment.
A total of 151 men, 101 women, and 98 children benefited from this initiative, said the PRO in another release, adding that a dedicated team of healthcare professionals from the Assam Rifles and civil authorities collaborated to provide high-quality, accessible eye care to the villagers.
