Skill training programme begins

A 10-day skill training programme on 'Extraction, Processing, Value Addition and Product Development from Pineapple Leaf Fibre' organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Thoubal in collaboration with ICAR ATARI Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya and hosted by Agriculture Department commenced at KVK, Thoubal training hall on Monday.
The training is being conducted as part of NEH Activities Programme of ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering And Technology (NINFET), Kolkata, West Bengal, The opening function of the training programme was attended by agriculture director Peter Salam, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata ARS scientist Naveen Jose and KVK, Thoubal head senior scientist Dr Zeshmarani Sarangthem as presidium members.
On the first day of training, Naveen Jose spoke on 'Waste to Wealth from Pineapple Leaf'.
Other subject experts of the training include KVK, Thoubal home science SMS RK Lembisana; horticulture SMS Dr Kh Premlata; KVK, Imphal East home science SMS S Molibala; Agriculture Extension PA S Prabin; plant protection SMS L Boris; KVK, Bishnupur home science SMS N Bandana Devi; MSME Technology Centre, Imphal deputy director Dr Sinam Yoirentomba Meitei; and CAU College of Technology, Imphal Ng Joykumar.
In his address, Peter Salam informed that the training is being organised in view of high demand for products made from pineapple leaf fibre in Manipur and outside the state.
The trainees will be trained on use of machines for producing the fibre instead of hand.
