Imphal, October 25 2024:
The Ningol Chakkouba Organising Committee, Delhi, has announced cancellation of this year's festival, celebrated since 2015 to promote love, peace, and unity among the diaspora and various communities in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) .
The decision comes amid violence in the state since May 2023, causing suffering and displacement for many individuals.
In a statement, the committee expressed that given the current circumstances it would be inappropriate to hold celebratory event while many people remain displaced and are living in relief camps.
Instead, the committee will redirect its efforts towards providing aid and support to those affected by the violence.
The committee is committed to honouring the spirit of unity that the festival represents by sharing solidarity with those in need, while at the same time calling for community contribution towards relief efforts, emphasising that collective support can bring hope and relief to those facing hardships.
It also thanked everyone for their understanding and solidarity, and urged for continued prayers and efforts towards peace, healing, and the well-being of all communities in Manipur.
