Central Forest Division promotes native species

Apart from celebrating Van Mahotsav, also known as the Festival of Forests, the Central Forest Division distributed seedling of different varieties to the public at its Mantripukhri complex.
The division set up a kiosk and over the course of three days (July 15, 16, and 19) distributed over 10,000 seedlings to students and members of the public under the leadership of DFO Ganesh N .
According to a statement of DFO Central Forest Division, the Festival of Forest is being celebrated this year under the theme 'Ek Paud-ha Maa Kee Naam' and the division has so far planted more than 1 lakh saplings and over 1.5 lakh saplings under other schemes.
Majority of the saplings distributed to public have ecological and nutritional benefit.
They included Manahei, Indian Olive, Tamarind, Amla and Jamun.
These saplings were selected with the aim to promote biodiversity and encourage planting of native species.
Students and public participated with great enthusiasm, demonstrating a collective effort towards enhancing the green cover and contributing to a sustainable environment.
The event highlighted the importance of tree planting and the role of every individual in preserving natural resources, added the statement.
