Attack on editor's house condemned

Imphal, July 16 2024:
Unknown persons opened fire at the Khabam Mayhai Leikai residence of Khoirom Loyalakpa, editor and publisher of the vernacular newspaper "Naharolgi Thoudang," on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The attackers fired five rounds at Loyalakpa's residence, which is located under Heingang police station in Imphal East district.
A case has been registered by Heingang in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild, Manipur (EGM) condemned the attack in the strongest terms.
In a joint statement, AMWJU and EGM stated that an emergency meeting was held at Manipur Press Club, where they condemned the attack.
The meeting also urged government authorities to take action against those involved in the attack and appealed to the perpetrators to contact AMWJU or EGM before taking any action against an editor for publishing a news report, in accordance with the AMWJU's Code of Conduct (Local Adjustment) .
