Imphal, October 07 2024:
A sit-in protest was staged by employees of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS) Department at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Monday against a huge monetary demand served to the department.
Speaking to media persons, taekwondo coach L Meghabarna pointed out that YAS is a minor department with limited budget, but is shouldering huge responsibility in providing training to sportspersons to turn them into players of national and international repute.
Unfortunately, serving excessive monetary demand has caused unease and anxiety among the employees subsequently disturbing their concentration, he noted.
Meghabarna also informed that the department has been entrusted to organise National School Games for weightlifting, Thang-Ta, Sepaktarkraw and football in December but is apprehensive that the monetary demand might affect preparations for smooth conduct of the games.
He further appealed for withdrawing the monetary demand, while adding that instead of monetary demand it would be better if the department is approached for donation, which it has been complying with in the past for the welfare of the public.
Meghabarna also pleaded to keep Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and the YAS Department as 'free zone' .
