Kakching, March 03 2025: Th Parnong Monsang has become the new chief (Eruwng) of Liwa Sarei village, Chandel district as the traditional coronation ceremony took place at the local playground on Saturday along with a grand customary feast.

Hosted by Liwa Sarei Village Authority and the family members of the new chief, the event was attended by Chandel ADC former member Sh Manglem Monsang as chief guest, retired associate professor Kh Mobershing as the functional president, and special contractor Kowar Dilbung Lamkang as guest of honour.

Religious leaders, village chiefs, public leaders, social workers from different villages and well-wishers also attended the event.

Sirti Upa Ruh (SUR) (Monsang Tribe Union) president Ng Benithan Monsang administered oath to the new chief Th Parnong Monsang, and also handed over copies of the constitution of Sirti Ipa Ruh, The Manipur (Village Authorities in Hill Areas) Act 1956 (Act No 80 of 1956), The Regulation of the Monsang Tribe Custom and Usages, Manipur, Frame Work Agreement (GDI -NSCN), Model Code of Conduct for Monsang Custom and Social Functions among other documents of importance.

Liwa Sarei Baptist Church pastor reverend G Khartu offered prayer for the new chief and the village.

Speaking on the occasion, Manglem Monsang expressed that a village chief should always stand for the truth, make Monsang tribe strong and work in tandem with the villagers.
