'Sarik: Tolling the Bell for Equality' released

Imphal, October 25 2024: "Sarik: Tolling the Bell for Equality" a handbook on transgenders' lives, human rights and laws published by All Manipur Nupi Manbi Association (AMANA) was released at Manipur Press Club here on Friday.

The release function was organised with support of Solidarity and Action Against HIV Infection in India (SAATHI) and Astreae Lesbian Foundation.

Speaking On the occasion, AMANA secretary Shanta Khurai informed that SARIK is a resourceful booklet featuring personal stories of 10 transgender individuals, alongside relevant laws and acts.

It will foster a deeper understanding of transgender rights and laws, which in turn could help in reducing violence against transgender community, Shanta opined.

The secretary further said that the handbook would be a valuable resource for government departments and educational institutions.

Any individual willing to understand about transgender and relevant laws may also use the book for reference, the transgender activist said while observing that the state is witnessing social tolerance towards transgender.

A sensitisation session was also held as part of the event, wherein L Sanoi College political science assistant professor Ningombam Shreema, clinical psychologist Paonam Thoibi and community research person DK Sinam spoke as resource persons.
