AR observes National Cancer Awareness Day

Assam Rifles on Thursday observed National Cancer Awareness Day across multiple locations, including Mantripukhri Garrison, Sanjeevani in Imphal West, Old Samtal and Sajik Tampak in Chandel district, as well as Ukhrul and Tengnoupal districts.
Centred on the theme "Fight Cancer with Hope and Heart," these awareness drives aim to educate local communities on cancer prevention, early detection, and lifestyle changes to reduce cancer risks, said a PRO IGAR (S) press release.
At Mantripukhri, an Assam Rifles medical officer highlighted the importance of National Cancer Awareness Day in reinforcing the need for proactive cancer prevention, regular screenings, and adopting healthier lifestyles.
Over 200 Assam Rifles personnel and civilians attended the observance, reflecting strong engagement and support from the community.
At Old Samtal, Assam Rifles conducted an awareness drive focused on both cancer and infant mortality.
Informative posters, leaflets, and community discussions were used to educate villagers on early symptoms of cancer, regular medical check-ups, and key practices to reduce infant mortality rates, such as proper nutrition, vaccination, and timely medical care for mothers and new-borns.
A medical officer of Assam Rifles also conducted a lecture at the Sajik-Tampak event held under the theme "Make the Environment Cancer-Free".
The session focused on cancer preventive measures, early detection, and treatment options.
Local residents numbering 43 were also informed about government schemes available for cancer prevention and treatment.
Meanwhile, in Shangshak, Assam Rifles held joint awareness sessions with local health officials, incorporating health screenings and counselling services.
The sessions highlighted the importance of regular checkups and lifestyle adjustments to help lower cancer risk.
Around 50 villagers attended the sessions.
Also, Assam Rifles conducted cancer awareness campaign at Sita village and Mission Veng in Tengnoupal district.
This initiative attracted over 200 students, focusing on healthy lifestyle choices, recognising early cancer symptoms, and the importance of regular check-ups.
AR personnel engaged with participants, sharing insights on nutrition, exercise, and avoiding harmful habits.
The campaign was part of Assam Rifles' broader mission to improve healthcare awareness in remote areas lacking medical infrastructure, Recording to the PRO.
