Assessment, registration of PwDs for UDID held

Imphal, November 10 2021:
Social Welfare department, CEO Manipur, Handicap Development Foundation, State Platform for Disabled People's Organisation and Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack, Odisha jointly organised assessment cum distribution of aids and assistive devices and registration for UDID df persons with disabilities (PwDs) at THAU ground, Thangmeiband on Wednesday.
An awareness programme on the rights and importance of participation of PwDs in the upcoming election was also conducted as a part of the event, which was attended by Imphal West deputy commissioner Th Kirankumar, social welfare director Ng Uttam, Handicapped Development Foundation chairman Sapam Jashowanta and SVNIRTAR nodal head AN Nanda as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Kirankumar advised the differently abled people not to get disheartened and look down upon themselves while pointing out that there is no need to feel embarrassed on identifying oneself as differently abled persons.
While urging the BLOs to continue their work of identifying differently abled persons in polling stations by visiting houses, he pointed out that the ground work of the BLOs is not up to the mark.
He also urged the general population to clearly mark the respective physical status during the ongoing awareness programme.
This will help in ensuring special facilities for PwDs on the day of election, he added.
