RIMS police picket inaugurated

RIMS director Prof L Ranjit Singh on Monday inaugurated RIMS Police Picket, under Lamphel police station at RIMS Hospital, here in the presence of RIMS medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta Singh, DDA (Admn) N Indrakumar Singh and CAO/FA S Sarat Singh.
During the inauguration programme, the RIMS director suggested a separate women police cell to strengthen number of police personnel since RIMS campus is quite vast.
It is essential and necessary to have regular police service at RIMS, he said, adding that presence of police will facilitate filing of cases and providing legal assistance to the victims of sexual assault and other domestic violence at RIMS Hospital.
Besides, they also have responsibilities to play vital roles at the hospital for safeguarding doctors, officials, staff and patient parties, the director said.
Meanwhile Prof N Sanjib said that police and doctors should co-operate with each other so that law and order at RIMS area can be maintained.
He urged Imphal West SP to also deploy armed police personnel at RIMS Police Picket.
Meanwhile, SP Shivakanta mentioned that RIMS Police Picket has played a very important role in the hospital to protect from unwanted happenings at the surrounding of RIMS campus.
The number of personnel for the RIMS Police Picket will be enhanced from the existing numbers in order to help keep RIMS campus safe from unwanted social elements,
said the officer.
