Imphal, June 13 2024:
Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) has appealed to the Works Department for taking up re-construction/repairing of the Kakching Lamkhai to Wabagai Lamkhai road stretch, which is part of the NH-137 (A).
In a statement, JNGVO suggested that the Department undertake the task from the maintenance fund pending release of funds from the centre, if any.
JNGVO pointed out that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has allocated Rs 550 crore for reconstruction of National Highway-137 (A)-Imphal-Mayang Imphal-Ka-kching Lamkhai under three packages namely 0 to 22 km in Imphal West area (4-lane), 22 to 36 km in Uchiwa area (2-lane) and 36 to 44 km in Kakching district (4-lane) .
During the last budget session of Manipur Legislative Assembly, the works minister announced that the project would commence shortly.
Despite lifting of the election code of conduct and formation of a new government at the centre, there has been no visible effort to initiate the project, the statement noted.
