Imphal, May 10 2024: A havildar of the 1st India Reserve Battalion (IRB) shot himself dead at Yaiskul under Imphal police station around 9.05 am Friday.

The deceased havildar has been identified as Longjam Nandakumar (52).He was posted as a house guard at the residence of Manipur High Court Justice Aribam Guneshwar Sharma at Yaiskul Moibung Lakpa Leirak.

According to a police report, Nandakumar allegedly shot himself with the MP-5 rifle issued to him, at the house guards' room.

The report maintained that other IRB personnel on guard duty heard a gunshot around 9 am and rushed to find Nandakumar in a pool of blood inside the barrack with a gunshot wound on the head.

On receiving report of the incident, a team of Imphal PS arrived at the spot and conducted preliminary investigations, before shifting the body to RIMS for post mortem examination, which was conducted around 1.45pm and the body handed over to family members.
