Meitei Alliance resents unbearable demands

Imphal, July 09 2024: Meitei Alliance has issued an urgent appeal for addressing impact of widespread coercion and solicitation of money by various armed groups in the state.

According to the Alliance, the demands made in the name of funding patriotic activism have reached unbearable levels, affecting individual livelihoods and the entire economy.

In a statement, the Alliance highlighted that entrepreneurs, traders, and shop owners, who play crucial roles in economic development, are the hardest hit by these extortionate practices with many forced to shut operations, and others on the brink of bankruptcy.

Such economic strain is contributing to widespread casualties, frustrations, chaos, societal divides, conflicts, and unrest, it cautioned and opined that any armed group truly committed to the people's cause would not undermine the economy and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

The Alliance also appealed to the armed groups concerned, government, and civil organisations at local, community, and state levels to take immediate initiatives for addressing such a critical issue.
