Imphal, September 05 2024:
Since the people of the state are doing what the government should be doing amid the conflict, it is safe to assert that the people are the ones shielding the government instead of the government protecting the people in the first place, Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwor has stated.
Speaking at a sensitisation programme on financial literacy organised by District Handlooms and Textiles at Khewa Company on Thursday, Lokeshwar regretted that instead of the central and state governments safeguarding the people in the on-going conflict, people are protecting the government instead.
The ministers, who had taken oath to protect the state and its people, are now doing the opposite and seeking protection from the people.
Many youths, who are the future pillars of the society and state, are compelled to take up arms and defend their land in the peripheries and fringe areas, he noted, while questioning who is responsible for such perilous situation.
Lokeshwar continued that it is natural for the people to put their own lives on the line with the government failing to protect them.
Even now, both the centre and state governments are behaving as mute spectators while Kukis continue to use sophisticated weapons and drone bombs on innocent civilians.
He further questioned why the CM is not summoning the DGP and security advisor to discuss the situation and why the state police force not being encouraged.
He also asked why the government is not making any attempts to calm the people at this juncture.
Lokeshwor then said that the central government has not made it clear that it wants to end the conflict.
If the centre took the matter seriously, it would have put a full stop to the violence between the two communities.
