Imphal, September 27 2024:
Huidrom Development Committee (HDC) has alleged that contractor of a project related to development of the Keibi Road (Sawombung to Sagolmang) has left out a portion of the road after it raised complaint and suggested adherence to specifications mentioned in the work order.
Addressing the media at its office on Friday, HDC president Rajen Huidrom said that they were elated when the road development project began widening the 12-foot road by additional 11 feet.
However, on perusing copy of the work order issued by PWD, it came to light that the newly widened portion of the road should be dug 6 inch deep, compact the soil and lay a layer of Balu Shingle before WBM works.
Contrary to the specifications, the work agency only scratched a thin layer of the soil using excavator without compacting the soil, which they consequently complained to the PWD chief engineer, who sent an assistant engineer to check the work.
The AE confirmed non adherence to specifications mentioned in the work order and told the villagers that the works need a rerun.
After some hiatus, the work resumed from Pourabi area but skipped the entre portion in Huidrom village.
Disturbingly, the work agency was found spreading false information alleging that the villagers obstructed the road project instead of explaining the ground reality, he said.
Stating that no villagers restricted the project but simply asked to follow the specifications mentioned in the work order, Rajen demanded the contractor concerned to clarify his action.
He also drew attention of the chief minister, who often assured of taking up actions against anyone compromising work quality for any developmental project.
He further drew attention of MLAs of Lamlai and Khundrakpam ACs to look into the matter so as to ensure quality control of the project.
