AR pays tributes to martyrs

Assam Rifles conducted a wreath-laying ceremony for rifleman Gopal Singh Bhandari, who made the supreme sacrifice on April 26, 1997 during firefight with undergrounds (UGs) at Chessore (Nagaland).
The braveheart inspite of sustaining gunshot wounds continued to engage the UGs but later succumbed to injuries, laying down his life for the nation.
The battalion and Assam Rifles saluted the supreme sacrifice of rifleman Gopal Singh Bhandari and paid respect to the martyr by laying wreaths and giving a guard of honour, PRO IGAR (S) said in a release, Assam Rifles also organised wreath-laying ceremony at Chassad in Kamjong district in honour of its braveheart Sub Maj Khadka Bahadur Limbu, who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation while fighting with insurgents at Road Track Junction near Khyakjong, Tuensang district, Nagaland on April 26, 1961.The event commenced with the wreath laying by the commandant of the unit, followed by a motivational speech addressing all ranks and narrating the inspiring story of the brave -heart.
Five officers, 10 junior commissioned officers and 102 other ranks of the battalion paid tribute by laying wreaths and giving a guard of honour, added the PRO in another release.
