Imphal, May 21 2024:
Union of Trust appealed to the department concerned to review cancellation of the permits of some private rehabilitation centres, which could not submit relevant documents for continuing the centres in time due to the ongoing violence.
The Trust also sought another chance or time for submitting necessary documents and drew attention of the Social Welfare Department for doing the needful.
Union of Trust publicity secretary Uiningsubam Kishorchand told media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday that tough recognised by the Social Welfare Department the ethnic conflict lingering for over a year is seriously affecting efficient operation of rehab centres registered under the trust.
Amidst the hardships owing to the continuing violence, the department issued a notification on April 24 for cancellation of operation of 31 rehab centres.
Due to the ongoing violence, some rehab centres failed to secure necessary inspection marks while some rehab centres were unable to submit relevant documents to the department in time.
The notification issued by the department might be justified but the trust seeks another six months' time for the said rehab centres to submit relevant documents, Kishorchand said and urged the department to reconsider the cancellation order and allow the rehab centres to help drug users.
