Senapati, December 14 2024:
The 4th State-Level Barak Festival was celebrated on Friday along the scenic banks of the Barak River in Kathikho Karong, embracing the theme "Preserve and Cherish" with vibrant cultural performances, highlighting the region's rich cultural heritage.
Despite the festive spirit, the celebration was low-keyed due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
In his address, NPO president Kuba Peter highlighted the Barak River's critical role as a lifeline for the district.
He stressed the need for collective efforts to conserve forests and protect the river, urging shared responsibility in safeguarding this essential resource.
Peter also linked environmental conservation to cultural preservation, calling on the community to cherish and promote their cultural heritage as a core element of their identity.
Acknowledging support for the festival, the president expressed gratitude to chief minister N Biren Singh for his unwavering support, as well as to local MLAs and the district administration for their continuous support in ensuring the event's success.
Peter then advocated for unity in protecting the environment and preserving cultural values for the benefit of future generations.
The event saw the participation of former NPO presidents, tribal Hoho leaders, and other prominent social figures.
