Uripok MLA for hiking old age pension amount

Maintaining that the pension amount given under Old Age Pension Scheme is low and not in commensurate with the present condition, Uripok MLA Khwairakpam Raghumani has stressed the need for increasing the amount while assuring of bring ing up a proposal to the government in this regard.
Attending an event organised for distribution of Old Age Pension and CM's Window Pension cards held at Uripok Sorbon Thingel Gopalji Leirak, here, on Tuesday, MLA Raghumani said that monthly benefit of Rs 200 is not compatible today and it needs an immediate revision.
Observing that only about 300 eligible people are enjoying benefits of the Old Age Pension Scheme, he assured of taking up necessary measures to add more beneficiaries.
The MLA also expressed concern over the increasing numbers of widows and urged the people to avoid substance abuse, which has become a major cause for untimely death.
Local elders S Tiken and Th Selungba also attended the function wherein Old Age Pension cards were distributed to 173 beneficiaries and CM's Window Pension cards to 185 beneficiaries.
