Trees planted in honour of Hijam Irabot

Protection & Preservation Manipur, in collaboration with Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee, planted tree saplings at Youshulakpa Khoudem Hills in Moirang as part of the month-long Hijam Irabot Memorial event.
Speaking at the event, Committee convenor Ph Nando Luwang informed that the saplings were planted as a tribute to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, who had deep love for his homeland and vision for future generations.
Noting adverse impact to human due to damage caused to environment and attributing the crisis to unrelenting clearance of the hills by Kukis for poppy cultivation, he called emphasised that the government should do the needful to effectively tackle the impending environmental disaster.
Committee convenor K Thoiba, who was also present on the occasion, said that September is being observed as Irabot month since the last many years in continuation of which a committee has been formed by four farmers' groups.
The committee has launched sapling plantation programme with the objective to make Manipur a green state.
Meanwhile, United Clubs' Organisation, Bishnupur; Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Bishnupur; Anti-Drug Campaign Bishnupur District and Apunba Lup Ningthoukhong among others, under the aegis of AMUCO organised a cleanliness drive at Ningthoukhong bazar along with planting tree saplings, as part of the month-long Hijam Irabot tribute event.
