Senapati, May 28 2022:
MLAs of Mao and Tadubi assembly constituencies were visibly upset over the inaction of the authority concerned on the recent two accidents (May 12 & 15) at Likhru bridge even after more than 10 days have passed.
The two MLAS expressed their resentment when asked about the work progress at the accident site where two trucks fell off the Likhru bridge, which is located between Chakumei and Makhan under Mao Police Station in Senapati district.
The accident on May 12 killed both the driver and the handyman.
Tadubi MLA N Kayisii stated that more than 10 days had passed but still no concrete action was taken up, along the aforementioned site.
He added that the two local MLAs had met the state chief minister on May 16 over the accidents to initiate immediate action without delay.
Mao MLA L Dikho also lamented that nothing has been done till date at the spot.
Some sign boards were reportedly put up by Mao Police while Mao Students' Union along with Drivers' Union laid some boulders on the side of the bridge on the day of the accident.
However, no crash barrier was installed for safety on road for both vehicles and commuters, he said as the MLA expressed displeasure over such negligence on the part of the authority concerned.
It may be noted that Truck Drivers Union, Mao Students' Union and Mao Students' Union, Senapati had tried to impose indefinite bandh along the highway to draw the attention of the authority concerned, demanding that road barriers be installed along Likhru River Bridge, which is an accident -prone zone.
However, after assurance given by the two local MLAs to address the issue at the earliest, the proposed bandh was called off.
