Imphal, September 27 2024:
Transgender activist Malem Thongam's attempt to stage protest on Thursday at Khurai Lamlong Keithel was foiled by the police.
Holding a banner demanding action against the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs who are pitching for separate administration and supporting armed Kuki outfits, and declaration of these outfits as terrorist organisations, Malem showed up at Lamlong Keithel to carry out the protest only to be prevented by security personnel already presented at the location.
Briefly speaking to the media, Malem held the 10 Kuki MLAs accountable for the humanitarian crisis besieging the state for the last many months.
He also condemned the BJP-led government and the saffron party's hesitancy in initiating action against the MLAs, who are spearheading the demand for separate administration.
Among the 10 MLAs, two namely Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen are cabinet ministers in the BJP government.
Further confiding that application under Right to Information (RTI) Act had been submitted to the chief minister and the BJP president seeking an explanation for 'shielding' the 10 Kuki MLAs, Malem also contended that the government has served ultimatum of 15 days to take action against the 10 MLAs failing which MLAs of the present government would be construed as backing the Kuki MLAs and their demand for separate administration.
He also threatened to resort to extreme step in case the government does not provide positive response and act accordingly.
