MU observes World Wetlands Day 2025

Imphal, February 02 2025: Manipur University Department of Geography on Sunday commemorated World Wetlands Day 2025 under the theme "Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future", to raise awareness on importance of wetlands, with a special focus on the wetlands of Manipur.

The observance held at the Department's seminar hall was attended by Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra Singh as chief guest, dean of Human and Environmental Sciences professor S Jibonkumar Singh along with former dean Professor N Deva Singh as guests of honour and Geography Department head professor Kh Pradipkumar Singh as the functional president.

Highlight of the event included lecture on the observance theme by MU Department of Life Sciences professor Th Binoy and an interactive session on the conservation and management of wetlands, particularly in Manipur.

The discussions centred on ecological significance of wetlands, their role in biodiversity conservation and the need for sustainable management practices.
