Churachandpur, October 15 2021:
In collaboration with district administration and District Legal Service Authority, Churachandpur, Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) organised a simulation walk named 'Walk for Equality' at Churachandpur town from 3pm Friday.
During the programme held as part of World White Cane Day observance, a short yet symbolic march by differently abled persons along with paralegal volunteers and panel advocates .was taken out from the CJM court till the mini secretariat campus, where DC Pawan Yadav accorded warm reception to the participants.
Even though CCI had been instrumental in ensuring enrolment of persons with disabilities (PwD) so that they could exercise their voting rights for the last four general elections, accessible election could not happen due to non-sensitisa-tion of officials of district administration and election officials did simulation walk, acting like PwDs, so as to ensure that officials concerned understand the difficulties besetting the PwDs.
Pawan Yadav took the first step in the simulation walk by blindfolding and trying to walk up to the steps of the office building with a cane stick which is the common problem normally endured by people with disabilities (PwD) .
A simulation of wheelchair users' problem due to absence of ramp was also showcased while one Lallem explained, ahput the usage, and irrrportance of white cane.
