RLP disapproves mode of Raksha Bandhan celebration

Imphal, August 30 2021: Rongmei Luh Phuam (RLP), the apex body of Rongmei Naga women for Assam, Manipur & Nagaland, has expressed its disappointment over the religious and customary defamation in the Tamenglong area of Manipur in the name of celebrating Raksha Bandhan on August 22 .

In a release, RLP AMN information and publicity secretary K Chamlanglu stated that they regard the Indian culture of sister tying Rakhi on brother as an acceptable socio-cultural and secular level of courtesy, but the in-depth root of ritual libation connected with a particular religion should be left alone.

At 44 Assam Rifles camp Tamenglong, some group of women performed all sorts of rituals connected to Hindu faith or Raksha Bandhan festival.

These women and the AR personnel in large crowd flouted all Covid-19 SOPs and enjoyed massive gathering followed by feasting while ignoring the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, it alleged.

RLP emphasised that the un-thoughtful event in violation of religious and Covid-19 protocols warrants criticism.

Though they regard Raksha Bandhan festival andthe good intention of the high officials and leaders of civil organisations and AR, but the excesses need to be checked as other faiths have their own doctrinal modes.

They deplore the excesses committed by the women group at Tamenglong who entered AR camp in violation of Covid-19 and religious codes of conduct and should not be repeated, it cautioned.

RLP AMN also condemned the unwise behaviour of these women who brought pain and shame to the whole Naga community.

"There is a limit to everything and excess of everything is bad.

So, it is wise to think thrice be fore one leaps and to consult with each other before one start any new venture.

Any good intention or venture may turn out ugly in the end if not carefully thought of.

Let us unite, realise and act wise in future for the good of all, it said.
