The 'Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the suspicious death of Yelam Subaschandra' has called off its proposed general strike following assurances by health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan that the JAC's demands would be honoured.
Speaking to the media on Sunday at the Nambol office of Development and Protection, United Voluntary Organisation (DPUVO), JAC convenor Naorem Ganga informed that minister Dr Ranjan'reached out to the JAC and assured to positively consider the demands.
Stating that the JAC had set deadline to cede to its demands within Sunday, the convenor informed that Dr Ranjan talked to the chief minister over the phone in the presence of the JAC members and reaffirmed his commitment.
In respect of the assurance given, the JAC decided to call off the planned agitation, Ganga maintained.
Mention may be made that Yelam Subaschandra had died at a training centre in Assam, which the JAC claimed was due to negligence by officials at the centre.
As the chief minister expressed willingness to engage in dialogue as well as the health minister's promise to address their grievances, the JAC has decided to cancel the strike plan, he reiterated, while cautioned that the JAC would be compelled to launch intense agitation in case the demands are not fulfilled.
