Imphal, July 19 2024:
Deeply concerned over upload of fake documents using organisation's nomenclature on social media, Kom Union Manipur (KUM) president Serto Ahao Kom has appealed to whosoever involved in the illegal act to discontinue with immediate effect.
Addressing media persons at KR Lane, New Checkon, here, on Friday, Serto said that a person named S Kom claiming to be from Phailen village in Kangpokpi district posted a document in Kuki dialect on social media on July 16 .
However, the person does not belong to Kom community and Phailen is not a Kom village, he said and clarified that the document (press release) uploaded by S Kom was unrelated with Kom community or KUM.
Strongly condemning upload of fake document in the name of the union and the attempt to wrongly portray Kom community through such fake documents, Serto Kom said that Kom community will always remain as Kom and maintain neutrality in the ongoing violence.
The Kom community stands by its commitment to live together with other indigenous communities in peace and harmony and protect territorial integrity of Manipur.
He appealed to individuals/ groups not to use union's or community's name while releasing documents in media and said that violators have to face
the consequences.
