Buyer-seller meet begins today

Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles deputy director and Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited general manager Th Basanta has announced that the Corporation will be organising a buyer-seller meet at its Paona Bazar office from Friday till September 9, to ease the hardships faced by weavers in selling their products.
District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal East organised a sensitisation programme for financial literacy of weavers & artisans cum awareness programme on government schemes, at Khewa Company community hall in Imphal East district on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar as chief guest, with Weavers Service Centre, Imphal deputy director Priyadarshini Daripa and District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal East project manager Y Ashalata as guests of honour.
Presiding over the function, Th Basanta spoke about the various schemes and projects which were introduced by the central and state governments for the welfare of weavers.
He continued that there are many insurance schemes available for weavers and urged them to join the Pradhan Mantri Jyoti Bima Yojna Scheme, for which the district project managers can be contacted.
Regarding the buyer-seller meet from September 6, Basanta informed that the Corporation will be purchasing the products of the weavers.
The weavers, if they cannot bring all their products, can bring a sample to allow the Corporation to assess the quality and price and the products.
He then urged the weavers to also try making home furniture items after identifying the item in demand, adding that there are designers in the districts for such items.
