Workshop on role of horticulture organised

Imphal, July 05 2022: The Instilute of Development Studies (IDS), Manipur in collaboration with the Development Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK) organised a workshop on "Role of Horticulture in Manipur with Special Reference to Pineapple of Andro" at Thambalnu Market Complex, Imphal East district on Monday.

The workshop was attended by Angtha Gram Panchayat pradhan Thiyam Manihal Singh, IDS chairperson Prof N Mohendro Singh and DOAK vice president W Sanaton as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

The resource persons of the workshop included Thangjam Agro Industries Pvt Ltd chief microbiologist and Horticulture and Soil Conservation AO Ak Somorjit.

In a release, IDS informed that 123 pineapple growers of Andro assembly constituency attended the workshop during which the resource persons fo cused on value addition of pineapple and promotion of organic farming of pineapple.

Discussions were also held on the need for higher level training for farmers regarding application of new technologies and diversification of the pineapple products.

In his presidential address, Prof N Mohedro emphasised on the need for becoming a planner, scientist and expert in pineapple production using modern technologies in order to compete in the global market and opined that pineapple farming could the leading sector in enhancing economy of the farmers.
