Uripok relay hunger strike suspended

The relay hunger strike staged under the initiative of Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL), demanding the arrest of those involved in the Jiribam Jakurador Karong massacre, has been suspended with effect from Saturday after a meeting with chief minister N Biren Singh.
During the meeting, the chief minister reported assured UAL and UNAL representatives that a member of the HPC (D) had been arrested and investigation underway.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also identified others involved in the massacre, a statement issued by UAL publicity secretary Chingthang Nambam quoted the chief minister as saying.
The chief minister also assured of suitable government jobs to the next of kin of the victims, said the secretary, adding that the relay hunger strike concluded with a candlelight vigil on the 79th day of the protest.
