Imphal, September 01 2024:
The four-day discussion programme organised under the aegis of Amai Piba Apul Lup (APAL) Kangleipak to bring uniformity in the ritual practices under Sanamahi religion concluded at MDU hall, Yaiskul Police Lane on Sunday.
The valedictory function was attended by Wangkhem MLA Keisham Meghachandra, APAL Organising Committee chairman Angomcha Mainou and HRD assistant secretary Ningtamba as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Meghachandra noted that lack of unity among people is a matter of serious concern for contemporary society as could be comprehended from many in the state facing perilous situation and people confused over their rights and identities.
Such an undesired situation, he said, is due to the masses undermining the importance to uphold customs, traditions, and religions.
Although one may embrace religion of his/her choice, the fact remains that the Meetei community has a unique faith practiced and bestowed by the ancestors.
He further emphasised that the Meetei practices are closely connected to our beliefs, traditions, and religions, with written documents specifying activities from birth to death.
Therefore, the MLA urged the government to respect all religions and hold the Meetei religion in high regard.
Amai Piba Apul Lup general secretary K Chingkhe-inganba Meitei also stated that the resolution adopted during the four-day discourse would be presented to the titular king of Manipur, who is the custodian of customary law, and will be made public only after receiving approval of the 'king' .
