Imphal, September 25 2021:
The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Athuan Abon-mai has served a 48-hours ultimatum to the State Government to translate into action the charter of demands they submitted.
Addressing a press briefing at Grace Academy School at Langol Tarung, JAC convenor Majabung Gangmei reminded that the first ultimatum they served expired last night.
Claiming that the Government has not given a single response till date though it's already been three days since Abonmai's death, he informed that the JAC has resolved to extend the deadline by another 48 hours.
The JAC has resolved to launch peaceful protest during these 48 hours, Majabung Gangmei said and asserted that the JAC will block NH-29 and NH-37 for 48 hours with effect from September 27 if the Government fails to fulfil their demands.

If the Government continues to sideline 'our demands', then a Statewide total shutdown will be called on September 29, the convenor cautioned and informed that the resolutions were taken during a meeting of Zeliangrong CSOs today.
Saying that the armed miscreants were able to abduct Abonmai right in front from police in broad daylight due to the negligence, inefficiency and ineffectiveness of IGP (Intelligence) K Radhashyam Singh, he added that the JAC doesn't accept the investigation being conducted by an enquiry committee headed by the IGP (Intelligence).
The JAC has no faith in the probe being conducted by such a police officer whose negligence has led to the abduction and subsequent killing of Abonmai, he asserted and demanded the Government to replace the head of the enquiry committee by another trustworthy police officer.
It may be mentioned that the memorandum submitted by the JAC on September 22 last urged the Government to hand over the case to NIA and suspend the Tamenglong DC and also the SP.
The JAC also resolved not to claim the body of Athuan Abonmai till all the culprits are booked.
The body of Athuan Abonmai who was abducted by armed miscreants on September 22 last from the venue of a high level programme at Tamenglong headquarters was found at Pallong village on the same day.
