Kangpokpi, February 23 2023: The District Hospital and all Government run healthcare centres in Kangpokpi are still shut amid ongoing indefinite strike of the All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association.

Locked on February 14 as the Government failed to address their grievances, the hospital and the health centres have been closed for days now crippling health care services in the district.

The doctors under the AMHSDA have been demanding time bound promotion; extension of superannuation age of specialists and non-specialist doctors to 65 years; inclusion of NPA in the basic pay with effect from January 1 of 2016 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission; and amendment of the 'outdated' MHS Rules 1982 .

The Kuki Students' Organization Sadar Hills visited the District Hospital and various other health centres in Kangpokpi district and found them closed.

The KSO Sadar Hills team led by its president, Satminthang Kipgen found only private clinics opened.

Speaking to the media, Satminthang Kipgen said that the closure of all healthcare centres in Kangpokpi owing to the indefinite strike launched by the AMHSDA prompted the organisation to visit the health centres to take stock of the situation.

As the centres are closed, the people are suffering a lot, he said.

"It is a sorry state of affairs that even people in the medical profession are compelled to resort to such extreme agitations," he added.

He said that the indefinite strike has been enforced by the AMHSDA as its final course of action owing to the State Government's failure to consider the demands of the doctors despite repeated appeals and assurances made to discuss the issues in the Cabinet.

Prolonged strike by the doctors will prove disastrous for the public.

The State Government and the authorities concerned must take up immediate steps to address the issues considering the report that the Government also considers the demands legitimate, he added.
