Many condemn Pongringlong incident

Imphal, June 20 2021: The Pongringjang United Organization (PUO) of Imphal Valley, in a statement strongly condemned the criminal, inhuman, unlawful and violent acts committed by the Joint Action Committee (Jessie Kamei, convenor and Poukhonlung Gonmei, secretary) and their team members who carried out the said deeds at Pongringlong Charoipandongba village, Kangpokpi district, Manipur amidst the promulgation of 144 CrPC by the concerned Magistrates of Kangpokpi and Noney (Longmai) districts on the 17th of June 2021.The said JAC crossed over to Pongringlong Charoipandongba village from Charoichakotlong Part II, and burnt down 5 houses of the following persons- Lanlimlung Panmei, Pouthonlung Gangmei, Hothui Kamei, Sajianlung Daimei, Aroma English School of Lanlimlung Panmei, it added.

5 vehicles of the following persons were also burned down- Tata DI of Disinrei Daimei, Ford Figo car of Adim Gangmei, Bolero M2 of Lanlimlung Panmei, School van of Lanlimlung Panmei, Swift Car of Gailungpou Daimei, it added.

Moreover, 1 Grocery shop of Gaiduanlung Panmei and 1 dismantled Grocery shop of Gailianglung Gangmei were also destroyed.

The JAC even kidnapped 2 innocent persons, Pousinlung Panmei s/o Lanlimlung Panmei & Gaithuanjang Daimei s/o Jaguanglung Daimei and were beaten in the presence of the police who were implementing the 144 CrPc at Charoichakotlong Part II Noney district, it alleged.

Even with the intensity and gravity of the crimes perpetrated by the JAC upon the villagers of the Pongringlong Charoipandongba village by violating the prohibitory order of DCs of Noney & Kangpokpi districts, not a single person has been arrested so far.

POU further urged the Government and CSOs to not shirk away their duty and responsibility of taking up befitting action against the perpetrators as per the law of the land, so that such violent acts do not recur in the future.

Meanwhile, the RCWS (Rongmei Catholic Women Society), Imphal Valley also condemned the tragic incident that took place at Pongringlong Charoipandongba village on June 17 and stated that the crime carried out by the JAC and its members upon the innocent peoples of the village was unfortunate should not be tolerated.

RCWS further appealed to the Government and CSOs to look into the matter and deliver justice at the earliest.
