BJYM 'stopped' from planting trees on Thangjing; meet demands clarification
Source: The Sangai Express

Moirang, May 14 2022: Even as many sections of the people have been demanding a clarification for the ban placed on climbing Thangjing Hill Ranges by a particular organisation, locals of Tayang Khul allegedly stopped BJYM volunteers from carrying out a tree plantation drive at Thangjing Hill Range today.

The BJYM volunteers were led by its president M Barish Sharma.

According to reports culled from the spot, the incident took place at around 10 am.

Reportedly, the BJYM members climbed Thangjing Hills to plant some trees so as to revitalise the hill ranges to some extent which have been affected by large-scale deforestation.

The team, however, was stopped from proceeding further at Tayang Khul by the locals there, as per the reports.

Soon after the incident, a team of police rushed to the site and settled the issue.

After the misunderstanding was solved, the BJP team proceeded further and planted some saplings on the peak of Thangjing Hills.

On the other hand, a meeting held at Moirang has unanimously resolved to restrict movement of all those people associated with Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Henglep Block in the valley areas if KSO Henglep Block doesn't come out with a clarification on or before May 20 regarding their purported statement which directs individuals and valley based CSOs to take prior permission from the village chiefs concerned to enter Thangjing Hill Ranges.

A press release signed by the Committee on Protection & Preservation of the Historical Rights of Koubru & Thangjing Hill Ranges (CPPKT) said that the meeting was convened today at Moirang Patlou Leikai in the attendance of its convenor Sapamcha Jadumani, Kabui Union president Dr K Heera Kabui, Federation of Haomee core committee convenor RK Rajendro, co-convenor Sweeten Raihing, and many other prominent individuals.

The meeting condemned the purported statement of the KSO, Henglep Block and asked them to clarify it on or before May 20 .

All those people associated with KSO Henglep Block should take permission from the CPPKT to enter the valley areas if the KSO Henglep Block doesn't heed the ultimatum, the committee said and alleged that the silence of KSO headquarters over the matter manifested their involvement in releasing the controversial statement.

The CPPKT then urged the State Government to take legal actions against the members of KSO Henglep Block on or before May 20 for its alleged attempt to create misunderstanding among the people.

It also urged the State Government to initiate prompt actions against any group who ban people from planting trees at Thangjing Hill Ranges or climbing the same.
